November 2010 Highlights
Best Practices| Channel Marketing in the Age of Social Media
Channel marketing is one of the least understood aspects of marketing. Some of the confusion comes from the fact that for marketers, channels tend to be media such as email, magazine advertising, telemarketing, and so on. Channel marketing, however, does not refer to these marketing channels; it refers to sales channels such as retailers, catalogues, websites, door-to-door sales and events. On the B2B side, it is typically direct salespeople, websites, or channel partners.
Best Practices| Maximizing Your Channel for Demand Generation
ICT vendors are heavily dependent on the channel generating revenue and creating brand awareness for them. Many channel networks have been built up over time or been acquired through mergers and acquisitions. This has resulted in some vendor's having a mixed bag of partners who are no longer capable of generating revenue or have a different focus which is no longer in line with the vendor's strategy.
As strategies change and new products come to market, it is important to review your channel and determine if you are working with the right partners.
Feature| Cloud-based Web Security Isn’t Hype: It’s Here and It Works
It’s not news that the web is dangerous and getting more dangerous by the day. Cyber criminals have ample economic motive and easy-to-use tools to harness the power of the web in capturing and misusing your data. What is news is that now you can protect your company’s valuable assets from web-based attacks with an effective new form of web security – cloud-based, reputation-driven defense.
Strategy| Players Join Forces to Address Cloud Computing Challenges in Asia
A group of 11 companies have formed the Asia Cloud Computing Association, which will work to address regional issues and challenges in the adoption of cloud computing in Asia. These include privacy and security concerns, compliance and regulation, business models, service levels, and other service issues and market risks in the region. Initially formed by vendors and telcos, it will need to engage a significant number of regulators and enterprises to achieve its proposed goals. Consortia of this type are known for having plentiful media announcements and publicizing themselves as members join, but usually fall short of any substantial developments or tangible results.
Company| IBM and Avnet Celebrate 25 Years of Partnership
Global technology distributor Avnet, Inc. and IBM have reached two significant milestones in their business relationship. The two companies have now been Business Partners for more than 25 years, collaborating on a global basis across all regions and in more than 30 countries. In addition, Avnet has reached $3 billion USD in annual sales of IBM technology solutions and services, generating greater than 20 percent growth year-over-year in IBM sales during Avnet’s fiscal year 2010.
