Japan and Canada have agreed to resume a joint study on the possibility of a bilateral free trade agreement say Japanese government sources.

The latest development comes in line with the Japanese government’s policy to push for free trade agreements with other countries in the hope to boost its sluggish economy.

Competition between South Korean and Japanese businesses in India will likely intensify following New Delhi’s signing of a free trade agreement with Tokyo in February, says a South Korean trade body.

Japan and India have just signed a comprehensive economic partnership agreement (CEPA), which once implemented will remove 90 percent of import tariffs on both sides, according to a report by the Institute for International Trade, a think tank run by the Korea International Trade Association.
