Facebook a Threat to Mobile Operators, Says Ovum

Facebook is shaping up to be a strong competitor to mobile operators many of whom are in danger of underestimating the threat it poses. In a new report by Ovum, the telecoms analyst firm states that Facebook is much more than a social network, noting that this is just a starting point and its domain spreads much wider. However operators are slow in waking up to the extent of Facebook’s ambitions and tend to view it as benign, non-competitive presence that they are keen to form partnerships.

Australian CRM Budget Growth Expected to Increase in 2011

Based on Ovum’s CRM Survey, respondents indicated that Australian CRM budget growth is anticipated through 2011. 55% of executives surveyed indicated that their Australian CRM budgets would actually increase, highlighting the overall positivity within the Australian economy with CRM budgets appearing to be amongst the biggest beneficiaries.

APEJ IT Infrastructure Market Characterized by ‘Low Server/High Client Profile’

The main infrastructure-related challenge faced by Asia Pacific (excluding Japan) – APEJ -organizations is around storing and managing their data infrastructure, states a report titled “IT Infrastructure in Asia Pacific 2010/11 – End-User Adoption Trends” from Springboard Research. Organizations are struggling with a dual challenge of “constrained IT budgets” on one hand and the ever growing need for more storage on another. While limited IT skills availability also remains an ongoing challenge, the respondents consider it secondary and do not currently view it as a major issue.

India’s IT Services Market Predicted to Hit US$7.5B by 2011

Total domestic IT services spending in 2011 is expected to grow by 15.5% over 2010, riding on the strong waves of IT outsourcing services, reveals Springboard Research’s “India IT Services Report: 2010”. The market for CY2011 is expected to reach US$7.5 billion, representing more than 14% of the overall APEJ (Asia Pacific excluding Japan) IT services market.
